Pricing & Service Fee FAQ
At ChargePoint, we are committed to making EV charging simple, reliable, and accessible for all drivers. We’re writing to inform you about an upcoming change to session pricing at ChargePoint stations, effective August 2025.
To continue offering a reliable and high-quality charging experience while managing rising operational costs, ChargePoint will begin applying a small Service fee to certain types of charging sessions. This fee will not apply to free or zero-energy sessions, nor will it affect sessions completed through workplace or multifamily "connection" programs, fleet accounts, or those on roaming partner networks.
Drivers who initiate sessions without a ChargePoint account will be subject to a higher Service fee, while drivers using the ChargePoint app, RFID card, or vehicle-based authentication will see a reduced fee. These changes will be clearly communicated to drivers through the ChargePoint app, station screens, and receipts.
Why is ChargePoint introducing a service fee?
To keep up with rising costs while maintaining a high-quality charging experience, ChargePoint is introducing a small service fee for charging sessions.
What is the service fee?
- Non-ChargePoint account holders. Note: Non-ChargePoint account holder fees apply to sessions started by anonymous users (i.e., not using the ChargePoint app or account).
- $0.49 for AC sessions
- $0.99 for DC sessions
- ChargePoint Account holders
- $0.25 for AC Sessions
- $0.49 for DC Sessions
How can drivers reduce or avoid the service fee?
- Use a ChargePoint account to receive approximately 50% off the service fee.
- Start a session and authenticate via the ChargePoint app, RFID card, or vehicle-integrated authentication.
- If using third-party apps to initiate a session, check those apps for any additional charging costs.
Are there any sessions that are exempt from this fee?
Yes. The following sessions are exempt:
- Free charging sessions or sessions that do not provide any energy.
- Sessions completed through business connections (e.g., select workplaces or multifamily properties offering “Connected” driver benefits).
- Fleet sessions paid by employers using ChargePoint fleet accounts.
- Sessions on Roaming Partner stations not on ChargePoint’s network (e.g., EVgo, Blink)
Why might the prices be different from what I see on the charger?
- Some sessions initiated through other networks are processed through third-party intermediaries, which may result in additional costs.
- Some networks may offer different rates based on membership or other factors.
Where can I see the exact price before charging?
- If using a ChargePoint account, you can see pricing:
- On the station screen (where available)
- In the ChargePoint app
- Through the ChargePoint driver portal
- If using a third-party app, check that app for pricing and session details.
Does the price include tax?
Tax rules vary region by region. On ChargePoint stations, when tax is applied to the price, it will be indicated on the charger’s pricing display and on the receipt. ChargePoint cannot control how other networks display our station pricing elements, and other networks may handle taxes differently.
Will the fees be clearly communicated?
- Yes. All pricing, including service fees, will be clearly shown:
- On the Station Screen
- In the ChargePoint app before you start a session
- On receipts
- If using other apps, pricing and receipts may be shown within those apps.
- You can always view our pricing terms and definitions here.
