Why are you applying a pre-authorisation hold?

Last updated: 14/1/2026

As a fraud-prevention measure, we have implemented pre-authorisation holds for new accounts to deter bad actors trying to abuse the system. This is one of many measures we have taken recently to protect our customers and to allow us to continue providing the best service possible.

As a provider of EV charging solutions, we help organizations connect with drivers like you who want to charge their vehicles. We do not own and operate charging stations, and we do not charge money for the energy that goes into your vehicle. Think of us more like a marketplace for charging, where we connect you with sellers of energy and only collect a small fee to cover our costs. Part of our role is facilitating every payment that drivers make to station owners for each charging session they initiate. Unfortunately, fraud has become a major issue that affects you as a driver and ChargePoint as a business. Even when we can’t collect money from an EV driver, we still take responsibility for paying the station owner.
