Viceroy Snowmass Installs ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles

Snowmass Village, CO. (June 10, 2010) – Viceroy Snowmass and Coulomb Technologies today announced the installation of the first electric vehicle charging station in the Aspen-area. The ChargePoint® Networked Charging Station for electric vehicles is located at the luxury resort and is complimentary to all hotel, restaurant spa guests.

The ChargePoint Network station is one more step Viceroy Snowmass is taking to practice energy conservation and reduce its carbon footprint. Designed as a LEED Silver Certified resort with innovative operational practices and a culture of environmental stewardship, the resort aims to redefine luxury while ensuring future generations are able to enjoy the area’s pristine, high-alpine environment.

In addition to the Charging Station, a 14-passenger electric bus will reduce the use of hotel shuttles and the number of trips within Snowmass Village. Employee pickup and drop-off at the Conoco bus stop will also be available at shift changes. Viceroy Snowmass also offers complimentary parking for all High Efficiency Vehicles (HEV).

“Viceroy Snowmass is committed to responsible environmental practices,” said General Manager Jeff David. “It is our hope that by offering electric vehicle charging, we can support alternative transportation and help locals and visitors minimize their environmental impact.”

"Viceroy Snowmass is taking a great step in welcoming electric vehicles to the Aspen area,” said Richard Lowenthal, CEO of Coulomb Technologies. “These charging stations are designed for environments like those in Aspen/Snowmass, so in the winter months EV drivers can feel confident they will be able to charge up and drive home. We are proud to be a part of the EV movement in Colorado.” The charging station is a part of the ChargePoint Network, which is open to all drivers of plug-in vehicles, provides authentication, management and real-time control for the networked electric vehicle charging stations.

The network of electric vehicle charging stations is accessible to all plug-in drivers by making a toll free call to the 24/7 number on each charging station, or signing up for a ChargePoint Network monthly access plan and obtaining a ChargePass™ smart card. ChargePoint Network unique features include:

  • Charging status by SMS text or email notification
  • Location of unoccupied charging stations via smart phones
  • Authenticated access to eliminate energy theft
  • Authorized energizing for safety
  • Smart Grid integration for utility load management with future V2G capabilities
  • A ChargePoint iPhone App
