How can I add my EV using my OEM account credentials?

Last updated: 6/16/2026

Select users can add their EV by signing in with their vehicle manufacturer (OEM) account. Once linked, the ChargePoint app can access state of charge, remaining range and approximate location info directly from your vehicle.

To add your EV with OEM credentials, follow the instructions below:

  • Open the ChargePoint app and navigate to Account > My EV.
  • Tap Add Vehicle or select an existing manually-added vehicle if you want to upgrade it to a connected vehicle.
  • Tap Connect to link your vehicle using your OEM account.
  • Pick your automaker from the supported brand drop-down list (Tesla, Ford, GM/Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and others, depending on regional roll-out).
  • Sign in with the credentials you use for your automaker's app.

Note: The credentials do not go to ChargePoint. The OEM handles the sign-in directly.

  • Authorize ChargePoint to read the battery, range and location data when prompted.
  • Once linked, your EV appears in My EV with a Connected badge. Vehicle data such model, trim, battery capacity, etc gets auto-populated from ChargePoint's vehicle database.

Important note: this functionality is available to select users only and may not be available for your account.

As soon as you link, you can access the following information:

  • Live state of charge (SoC) percentage available in My EV tab and while setting up route planning. Remaining range estimate before route planning.
  • Approximate vehicle location that can be used to plot your current position in route planning.
  • Auto-selected default connector for your EV based on the linked vehicle's specs.

The supported OEM list grows over time. If your automaker is not yet supported, you can still add your EV manually and use the manual SoC slider in Route Planning.

Note: ChargePoint reads battery, range and location only when the app is open and authorized. You can revoke access at any time from either using the ChargePoint app (Account > My EV > [vehicle] > Disconnect OEM Account) or your OEM account portal.

Troubleshooting:

  • If you do not see your color or trim in the OEM list, add the vehicle manually and re-try the OEM link later.
  • If the OEM login redirects but ChargePoint does not see the new vehicle, refresh the My EV screen and tap the vehicle. It should switch to Connected status.
  • To disconnect later, navigate to Account > My EV > [vehicle] > Disconnect OEM Account.

Tips:

  • You only need to link a vehicle once; the connection persists across app revisions and updates.
  • If you have multiple EVs, link each one and set one of them as your primary EV.
