Edison, N.J., and Campbell, Calif., September 05, 2013Fuji Electric Corp. of America announced that they have reached the 1000th charging session on their Electric Vehicle Charging Station at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Dana Point/San Juan Capistrano, CA, marking a major milestone for the electronics manufacturer and the EV industry in the US. The station was the first publicly available DC Quick Charger on the ChargePoint® Network upon its introduction in November 2012, and has become one of the busiest charging stations on the West coast. Owned and operated by EV-integrator Evoasis, it is conveniently located along the I-5 interstate, offering electric vehicle drivers a quick and easy 20-30 minute charging experience.

“The addition of Fuji Electric’s EV Charging Station was an exciting step for us, and we are pleased to see how quickly our guests and local travelers have embraced this new technology,” said Grace Miane, General Manager of Residence Inn Dana Point San Juan Capistrano. “With over 100 charging sessions each month, we look forward to the continued success of this station as we consider possible sites for additional DC Quick Chargers.”

“The traffic on this station has surpassed our expectations, and we are using the station data to educate other businesses on the benefits of installing EV Charging Stations at their sites,” said Larry Butkovich, Fuji Electric’s General Manager of EV Systems. “Average charging sessions are lasting about 20 minutes, making this an ideal solution for hotels, restaurants, retail and convenience stores.”

Fuji Electric’s DC Quick Chargers have been installed in hundreds of locations around the world, and the ChargePoint OnRamp integration means that drivers can easily access real time station availability and manage charging sessions. With over 6 MWh of energy dispensed to date, the Marriott station hosts drivers at random times throughout the day, as opposed to the predictable morning/evening spikes that are seen with regular EV charging. “This station was the first DC Quick Charger on the ChargePoint Network and its enormous success highlights the growing demand for public charging infrastructure,” ChargePoint’s CEO, Pasquale Romano said. “DC Quick chargers are critical for longer trips and are an important addition to level 2 public charging stations located where people live, work and play.”

Butkovich adds, “It is encouraging to see that EV drivers are embracing fast, reliable public charging for a reasonable price. This shows a maturation of the market that is significant for businesses, as it indicates a behavioral shift among drivers that shouldn’t be ignored.”
