How can I get the connector unstuck on my electric vehicle's charging port?

Keep in mind:

  • The connector doesn’t latch on to the vehicle; the vehicle latches on to the connector.
  • Never force the connector. It can damage the port or cable. 

Follow these steps:

  • Stop the charging session with the app or the station’s stop button.
  • Unlock your vehicle and make sure its transmission is in “park”.
  • Take your car key fob and press the unlock button 5 times consecutively. Check if the connector has been released.
  • If it is still stuck, toggle lock and unlock on the key fob 3 times. Check if the connector has been released.
  • If the connector remains stuck, use your vehicle’s owner’s manual to find and use the manual release button.
  • Still unable to release the connector?
    • Contact your vehicle’s customer service.
